Ordered 2 BOXES FULL of gifts for my nieces bridal shower. Asked for gift wrapping when the woman called to say they were all ready- we even discussed what should go in each box. Came in to pick up and see 2 white corrugated cardboard boxes so I asked "Are they gift-wrapped inside there?" And told yes. Thought how nice they protect the paper like that for transport. Get to shower and go to take WRAPPED GIFTS out of transport boxes and find all loose wrapped in BROWN PAPER! 'Crate' is accurate alright. All the wedding gift will be from stores that know how to present bridal and wedding gifts. Never this again!
Regardless of what we were wearing or the color of our skin, we should be able to peruse a store without being treated like criminals. Otherwise what is the point of having brick and mortar stores if you don't want your customers to interact with the merchandise?
Nice and open store layout. Plenty of home goods. Perfect for a registry.
Going forward, I will be sure to shop exclusively at their competitors.
We entered the store with no shopping list as we're moving in together and wanted to get a feel of what things we have, what we need, and what we can consolidate. My boyfriend and I have grown tired of the Ikea furniture that lined our college homes. You would think a local C&B would be the perfect place for giving us home inspiration. As we entered, a woman greeted us, told us about discounts, and told us to let the staff know if we need anything.
The is a fairly large crate and barrel, two floors. My times there have been around the holidays, but I don't find the staff that friendly unless you approach them. The staff doesn't look busy but you have to make the 1st move. I guess it's better that way then being a used car salesman. Prices are the same as the others, which is just crazy expensive, but everyone loves the style they offer.
We looked around the front at some furniture and headed to the back where a lot of seasonals, clearance, and dinnerware are. My boyfriend's and I are big foodies so we tend to be drawn to kitchenware. In the span of 10 minutes 4 different associates asked my boyfriend specifically if he "needed help." My boyfriend, mind you, was wearing fitted joggers, a basic t-shirt, and a baseball cap. I had your basic skinny jeans, t-shirt, loafers, and wallet on me. Not so much as a bag.
Friendly staff. They have many of their catalog items available. The second floor has a selection of furniture to try out. It is a great place to try the furniture. The kitchen goods section has many gadgets that make great gifts.
TL;DR: Don't go if you're brown/black.
I have shopped at this particular Crate and Barrel quite a bit whenever I'm near the mall. However I just left within the past hour with my boyfriend after being heavily monitored by retail staff. As you may able to tell from my profile, I am not white. My boyfriend also is a person of color.
